It can be difficult to decide whether a crew member who carries out intensive manual activities (such as work at a checkout or cleaning) needs to be sent for a medical check-up under the rules that were introduced last year, says Peter Palm, researcher at Uppsala University. He has been granted funds to develop an assessment tool that will make it easier for employers and safety ombudsmen to make this type of judgement.
