The Transport Agency has received two reports of fixed fire extinguishing equipment that has not worked as intended. In one of the cases the Agency has issued a Safety Alert. The problem was that a newer version of the sprinkler nozzle did not fit properly into the original brackets. This prevented full system pressure from being achieved, leading to less effective extinguishing. The second report was from a shipping company that detected a plugged valve in their 10 year inspection of the CO2 system, which put the system out of operation. According to the description from the company that had carried out the service, the plug should be removed if a two-tank system with pneumatic opening is installed. The fault was not detectable until the valve was taken apart in the workshop. The system had probably never been operational. In could have had disastrous consequences in the event of a fire.
