Soon after the departure of a ferry, smoke was noticed from a trailer onboard. There was no hazardous cargo declared for the trailer and it had been placed as a barrier between two vehicles carrying dangerous goods. The ship was moored again and the rescue services were called.
In the meantime, water was sprayed on the trailer. Cargo was unloaded so that the trailer could be taken ashore. It turned out that the trailer was loaded with aluminum waste that was not declared. Aluminum waste can generate hydrogen together with water, so it was really pure luck that an explosion did not occur.
