In 2014 there were 245 pirate attacks around the world. That represents a decrease of more than 40% compared with the record levels in 2011, which is largely due to reduced piracy off the coast of Somalia. A total of 21 ships were hijacked, 183 was boarded and 13 were shot at. Four crew members were killed, 13 were injured and nine were kidnapped. In January, the Swedish Armed Forces sent an anti-pirate unit to the Indian Ocean for the fourth time.
