Sweden is still slipping down the Paris MOU white list, which ranks the world’s shipping nations each year. The Swedish flag is now in 16th place after countries such as France, Germany, Ireland and Singapore. For five years, Sweden was among the top five in the list but it has now fallen towards the middle of 41 countries on the white list. The ranking is based on the number of inspections of ships in relation to the number of ships detained. There were 299 inspections of Swedish flagged vessels carried out during the latest inspection period (1 July 2017-30 June 2018) in the Paris MOU region (European coastal states and Canada), three of which were detained. Countries such as Iran, India and Morocco, as well as the United States and Switzerland, are on the Paris MOU grey list. The black list this year has 14 flag states with the worst inspection results and the most ships detained. At the bottom of the list are the island of Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Of the 486 ships inspected under the Togo flag, 92 were detained, while DRC had 98 inspections and 26 ships detained.
